Music Nicaragua shows traits of indigenous culture and Spanish influence. Indigenous influence can be traced back to the period before the arrival of the Europeans. Music in Nicaragua is closely related to the music in other parts of Central America. The Garifuna community on the Caribbean coast, has etched their own realm in the world of music, lives in Nicaragua. And their music is very popular throughout eastern Central America and the Caribbean. Music Nicaragua with the aid of marimba, a popular musical instrument, is played as a backdrop during social occasions. Marimba is accompanied by guitarrilla, fiddle and guitar. Throughout all of Nicaragua there is a love for loud and lively music. The Nicaraguan women have done a great job of mastering the salsa and love to salsa anytime there is music. Indigenous music troupes also perform dance and music in theatrical performances and at carnivals throughout the country with their large colorful masks.

Popular musical instruments found in Nicaragua are those seen throughout Central America. Marimba is the most popular musical instrument in Nicaragua. Made of hardwood, marimba is mounted over bamboo or metal tubes of different length. It is played using hammers and the number of hammer varies from two to four. The performer usually sits on the ground and holds the instrument on his knees. Other popular instruments are bass fiddle, guitarrilla, drums and guitar.
